Back in May I attended the James Day Photography DAYLIGHT workshop in Sydney. It was a weekend I came to with HUGE expectations and even more excitement! For me the thought of spending the whole weekend with other photographers talking photography was just too much awesomeness altogether. It wasn't that I expected to be told the secret to life or anything that serious, life is just so busy these days it is unusual to get the opportunity to talk with other photographers and learn. So - getting back on track. Heading to James's workshop was enormously exciting! We spent two days listening, sharing, watching, asking questions, eating, having aHa (!!) moments and having a wonderful time. We photographed 8 different couples in 5 minute challenges and I loved it! Most wedding location shoots are usually 12 times longer than this so it was an intense experience but amazingly fun and rewarding! James was incredibly generous in all he arranged for us. He is definitely the kind of person who sets out to deliver more than you expect and he really did. In every single way. From the free coffee at the cafe on arrival to the little light give away at the end, and every AMAZING gem of information in between (!!) there was so much to take in. I am still going through my notes and changing things in my business and I know I will be for years to come, all from those two days. There was so much wisdom - from personal experience and the 'team' of people that were there to share their specialised knowledge. We had support from a huge number of vendors in the professional photographic community - it was inspiring how far the network had been extended all for US. What we learnt was not just about shooting - in fact the majority of it was about running our businesses better. James had arranged some true talent in the way of stylists, hair and make up, floristry and of course - our gorgeous models. Here is the talented vendor list below:
Here are some of my highlights from the challenges - I wonder if you can guess what they were when you look through? As my wedding season is about to start I cannot wait to begin implementing all I have learnt!
